Dr. Sharon Gutman and Dr. Janet Falk-Kessler received a grant from the Virginia Apgar Academy of Medical Educators to embark on the next phase of their research in Emotional Intelligence (EI) in admissions.
They will be investigating whether the Emotional Intelligence Admission Essay Scale (EIAE), developed by Drs. Gutman and Falk-Kessler ("Development and Psychometric Properties of the Emotional Intelligence Admission Essay Scale," Available at: http://dx.doi.org/10.15453/2168-6408.1233), can be used to guide and evaluate structured interviews. They also seek to determine which format, a written essay question or structured interview, more effectively yields information about an applicant’s EI.
