Course Description
Leading in a Crisis Webinar Series Open Conversation Session:  Communicating Facts and Emotions This is a follow up session to the recent Leading in a Crisis webinar series and is intended for individuals who attended one or more of the sessions.  In this session, we'll provide a brief review of the guidelines discussed in the series for communicating facts and emotions and then conduct an open discussion on issues and opportunities in communicating during this period of high uncertainty.

Managing Remote Teams Micro Learning Session One:  Success Factors In this session, we'll identify trends affecting remote work and resulting success factors.  You'll also have an opportunity to respond to an interactive scenario to practice recognizing success factors in action.
Managing Remote Teams Micro Learning Session Two:  Preparation In this session, we'll identify key areas of remote work preparation and actions you can take to effectively plan each area.  You'll also have an opportunity to respond to brief quizzes to check your knowledge.
Managing Remote Teams Micro Learning Session Three:  Launching Remote Team Work In this session, we'll discuss the launch success factors of holding an effective launch meeting and taking follow up action to ensure effective implementation of your launch.
Managing Remote Teams Micro Learning Session Four:  Implementing Your Communication Plan In this session, we'll discuss practices for implementing your remote team communication plan as well as steps for managing virtual meetings effectively.
Managing Remote Teams Micro Learning:  Managing Performance Remotely In this session, we'll discuss the differences in remote work that make performance management challenging as well as practices for monitoring deliverables, giving feedback, and providing reports to management.  You'll also have a chance to respond to a practice scenario on giving feedback.

Moving Forward:  The Leadership Challenge Ahead

This is a recording of the webinar session conducted in June 2020.  The session explored the issue that as we gradually resume operations, more people will be returning to work onsite.  But we should expect "business as unusual" for the foreseeable future.  The webinar helped participants anticipate the challenges of this uncertain period, ensure that they know what resources are available to guide them, and provided tips for how to enhance resilience and agility.

This is a recording of the webinar session conducted in May 2020.  This session  explored why it’s so critical to maintain focus on work unit purpose and morale during a crisis. Participants learned how to build greater emotional awareness and resilience, both for themselves and their teams. This enables them to better navigate the turbulence around them.

This is a recording of the webinar session conducted in May 2020.  This session presented a set of guiding principles for effective crisis communication. It discussed the challenges of communicating under pressure, particularly when there are so many unknowns. The presenters offered various tips for meeting these and other communication challenges.

Crisis Decision Making

Session Recording

This is a recording of the webinar session conducted in May 2020.  The session discussed decision making pitfalls which are multiplied in a crisis. The presenters suggested ways to overcome these pitfalls including the use of a step-by-step process for making and communicating decisions. In addition, participants were given tips for how to cope with uncertainty and ambiguity.
Critical Thinking & Decision Making Practice critical thinking strategies and discuss their application in challenging work situations and in decision making.
Crucial Conversations at CUIMC Learn how to speak persuasively, not abrasively, and resolve individual and group disagreements.  A more extensive overview of the program is available.
Giving Effective Feedback Differentiate between the main types of feedback and describe why each is used; Study and practice an effective technique for giving corrective feedback.
Improving Communication Through MBTI Complete the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to learn about your personality preferences and how to apply them to improve relationships and effectively work with others.

Proactively Responding to Change at CUIMC (for staff) (online)

Proactively Responding to Change at CUIMC (for managers) (online)

Become adept at navigating change and taking a proactive – rather than a reactive - stance. Assess your own readiness to transition and explore tips for moving towards supporting anticipated changes (Staff and Manager versions of this online program are available).
Relieving Stress at CUIMC (online) Try out some approaches to recognizing, preventing, and managing stress to see if they might work for you. Resources are provided for additional support on any of the presented topics.
Time Management at CUIMC (online) Assess your time management skills and explore resources and tips that can assist you in those areas identified as challenges.
Transforming Customer Service Practice leaders or administrators learn how to lead a team to enhance its processes and to implement changes in its delivery of customer service.
Worthwhile Meetings (online) Holding a worthwhile meeting takes effort, as well as knowledge of some well-researched best practices. This course will help you to identify and commit to best practices to prepare for, run, and follow-up on a productive meeting. Additional meeting management resources are provided. This course is prework for Worthwhile Meetings: Advanced Skills.
Worthwhile Meetings: Advanced Skills Continue enhancing the meetings you conduct so that participants are engaged and decision making is efficient and productive. You'll practice opening a meeting, utilize effective group decision making techniques, and identify best practices for handling various types of challenging meeting participants. The online Worthwhile Meetings course is a pre-requisite for this classroom-based course.
