Diagnostic Radiology

From the Program Director

Welcome to the website for the Residency Program in Diagnostic Radiology at Harlem Hospital Center. Our faculty is committed to providing a comprehensive learning environment in all aspects of diagnostic and interventional radiology. Our goal is to train radiologists to become effective members of the healthcare community with strong interpretive skills and the ability to provide consultative services to referring physicians in an effort to improve the quality of patient care. Training is geared towards mastery in all radiology subspecialties as well as the general competency areas including professionalism, interpersonal and communication skills, knowledge of appropriate diagnostic tools, cost effective resource utilization, commitment to continuous education, and most importantly to the profession and the greater community.

Harlem Hospital Center is a four year residency training program in diagnostic radiology fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). All trainees are required to have completed a clinical year at the PGY-1 level. Residents are selected each year via the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) using the Electronic Resident Application Service (ERAS).

The faculty to resident ratio is approximately 1:1. Residents enjoy close relationships with faculty attendings that provide extensive personalized teaching. Residents are exposed to first line interaction with all clinical disciplines caring for a diverse patient population with a wide spectrum of clinical problems and underlying pathology.

Supervised training is provided in all facets of diagnostic radiology including the subspecialty areas of neuroradiology, gastrointestinal radiology, chest radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, pediatric radiology, breast imaging, obstetrical imaging, nuclear medicine, and vascular/interventional radiology. Educational rotations are located at Harlem Hospital Center with supplemental rotations at the affiliated New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center as well as at Jacobi Medical Center and Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center.
