Temporary Electrical Shutdown in ICRC, Nov. 12

Due to ongoing construction, there will be a temporary electrical shutdown in the ICRC building on Wednesday, November 12, from 3 a.m. until 8 a.m. Details of the shutdown, and what you need to do to prepare are below.

The following locations will be affected by the temporary shutdown:

  • 2nd Floor: Rooms 200, 201, 202, 202B, 203, 204, 205, 206, 207, 207B, 208, 211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, 222B, 224, 225, 226, 227, and 228
  • 3rd Floor: Rooms 300, 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 307, 308, 309, 310, 311, 311A, 312, 318, 319, 320, 330, 332, and 333
  • 4th Floor: Rooms 400, 401, 402, 403, 404, 405, 409, 410, 411, 412, 413, 414, and 415
  • 5th Floor: Rooms 500, 501, 502, 503, 504, 505, 506, 507, 511, 512, 513, and 514
  • 6th Floor: Rooms 600, 601, 602, 603, 604, 605, 606, 607, 611, 612, 613, 614, 615, 616, and 617
  • 8th Floor: Rooms 800, 801, 802, 803, 803A, 804, 805, 806, 807, 808, 809, 810, 811, 812, 816, 817, 819, 820, 821, 822, 823, 824, and 825
  • 9th Floor: Rooms 900, 901, 902, 903, 904, 905, 906, 907, 908, 909, 910, 911, 912, 913, 914, 915, 930, 931, 932, 934, 935, 936, 937, and 938
  • 10th Floor: Rooms 1000, 1001, 1002, 1005, 1006, 1007, 1008, 1009, and 1010

The following services will be unavailable during the temporary shutdown:

  • Normal laboratory power—including laboratory lighting and non-emergency power outlets—throughout all floors on the north side of the building
  • Temperature-controlled rooms, centrifuges, and freezers throughout all floors on the north side of the building
  • Access control (card swipe) doors
  • CUMC IT closets

Emergency power, emergency lighting, and chemical fume hood ventilation throughout the entire building will not be affected by this temporary shutdown. If you would like to request temporary power cords and/or dry ice, please contact CUMC Facilities Management at cumc.facilities@columbia.edu.

In preparation for this upcoming shutdown, individuals in affected areas in ICRC should take the following precautionary steps before they leave on November 11:

  • Save all files and important documents.
  • Completely turn off all computers and laptops.
  • Ensure all critical equipment is plugged into emergency power outlets.
  • Turn off all other electronic devices and non-essential laboratory equipment.
  • Make sure all freezer and refrigerator doors are tightly closed.

In case any issues arise, representatives from CUMC Facilities will be on duty during the shutdown. CUMC Public Safety is also available to assist with any building or other issues. For routine matters, call 305-8100; for on-campus emergencies, call 305-7979.
