Patrick Burke, AVP of Capital Project Management, Elevated to AIA College of Fellows

Patrick J. Burke, III, assistant vice president of Capital Project Management, has been elevated to the prestigious College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). In celebration of this rare honor, Burke recently shared the early roots of his practice with AIA New York and explored the youthful nature of architecture. Read his full interview here.

Founded in 1857 by 13 architects, the AIA currently has over 90,000 members, with more than 260 chapters around the world. Only 3 percent of its members achieve this distinction. Burke joins the fourth category of fellowship, which recognizes architects who have “advanced the living standards of people through an improved environment.”

Burke has spent decades overseeing the planning, design, and construction of large-scale, technically complex biomedical research facilities and other high-technology buildings. With a great sensitivity to design excellence, Burke has led his team in masterfully transforming Columbia University Medical Center’s built environment, creating structures that inspire thousands of faculty, researchers, students, and clinicians to pursue the highest levels of knowledge and healing.

Burke will be honored at an investiture ceremony at the AIA Conference on Architecture 2017 later this spring.
