Operation ID, Jan. 31-Feb. 1

Public Safety offers free electronic device "tattoo" and registration to protect against loss or theft

Have you had your laptop, cell phone, and other electronic devices tattooed as part of Operation ID yet?

This NYPD/CU Public Safety service is totally free. Your property will be engraved and registered nationwide and in some countries. This “electronic tattoo” has proven to be an effective tool for recovering lost devices; it also makes it more difficult for thieves to sell stolen property.

CU Public Safety will be ready and waiting to tattoo your device on the following days:

  • Wednesday, Jan. 31
    5-7 p.m.
    50-60 Haven Ave. Lobby
  • Thursday, Feb. 1
    11 a.m.-2 p.m.
    William Black Building Lobby

For department bulk registration, call the Crime Prevention Office to set up an appointment at 212-854-8513 or 212-853-1440, or email ps-crimeprevention@columbia.edu

Take another step and download free PC and laptop recovery program, PC/Mac Phone Home, from the CUIT website. If you have downloaded this software more than six months ago, you are eligible for the upgrade. Visit the website and download the program again. The new upgrade includes new features to help the police and CU Public Safety in recovering your computer.

For questions, please call CU Crime Prevention at 212-854-8513 or 212-853-1440.
