New Medical and Graduate Education Building Wins Award

The new Medical and Graduate Education building—currently under construction—received the Concrete Industry Board’s 2014 – 53rd Annual Roger H. Corbetta Award.

The CIB awards are presented annually to projects that exemplify excellence in concrete in their architectural design, engineering design, general construction, and workmanship, either individually or in combination. The CIB award was presented to the project team comprising CUMC Capital Project Management, architecture firms Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Gensler, structural engineer Leslie E. Robertson Associates (LERA), and construction manager and general contractor Sciame Construction.

The New Medical & Graduate Education Building is a 100,000 square foot facility that will significantly enhance the education experience at CUMC. Equipped with the most advanced technology for medical instruction, the building will transform how Columbia educates tomorrow’s physicians. The new building is designed to be both functional and flexible for the Medical and Graduate education programs. This cutting‐edge medical and education building with its cascading glass façade will also act as a social/gathering space for student life and as a campus and neighborhood beacon.
