Community Advisory: MTA 1 trains to bypass 168th Street starting Jan. 5

An MTA New York City Transit project will soon affect transportation to and from Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Beginning Jan. 5, 2019, through early 2020, 1 trains will not stop at the 168th Street subway station in either direction. This is so the MTA can replace elevators serving the 1 train platform and make other upgrades.

The station will remain accessible via the A and C train lines, and existing MTA bus routes may be used to get to CUIMC and other nearby stops along the 1 line. The Columbia intercampus shuttle (CU ID required) will continue to provide service among Columbia’s campuses and will make an additional stop at 157th Street.

Please visit the 1 train advisory webpage for information about the closure and transportation alternatives.

If your commute will be affected by the closure, you may wish to plan and test your modified route in advance. Evening shift employees may also want to consider applying for overnight parking.
