Heat Advisory: Please Conserve

URGENT REQUEST TO CONSERVE ENERGY

A heat advisory has been issued, and Con Edison has asked all institutional sites to reduce power usage. In turn, we ask all faculty and staff to conserve energy during this period of high demand and record-breaking temperatures. Both the University and Hospital have reduced grid-based electrical consumption by running our emergency power generation systems during peak-demand times and have otherwise further reduced energy consumption.

Any small effort that can be made by faculty and staff will help to ensure a continuous power supply through the duration of this heat advisory. Please follow these guidelines:

  • Keep all doors and windows, including building entrances, closed.

  • Turn off lights in any unoccupied area, such as conference rooms, pantries, bathrooms, hallways, and other areas, when not in use.

  • Refrain from using elevators when possible.

  • If you have window shades, keep them down.

  • Turn off computer monitors when not in use.

  • Turn off window air conditioning units if not in use or set the thermostat to 78 degrees.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 305-HELP (305-4357) and press 3.
