    Mario Acosta joined CUMC Facilities Operations in the spring of 2017 as a new evening custodial supervisor. Mario is responsible for the day-to-day custodial operations of the Irving Cancer Research Center, Russ Berrie Medical Science Pavilion, Lasker Biomedical Research Building, and 51 Audubon.

    He also liaisons with the Edge Hotel general manager and oversees custodial operations for the new School of Nursing building. 

    Previously, Mario spent eight years as a building manager with custodial oversight, working in commercial real estate in the Union Square/Lower East Side area.

  • Steve Archuleta

    Director, Campus Operations (East Campus)

    A customer-centric professional, Steve Archuleta has more than 25 years of health care experience, with specialized experience in environmental services and food services. He looks forward to working with and developing well rounded teams by relying on a combination of standards, best practices, and the collective experience that each team member brings to the organization.  His primary responsibilities include custodial, parking, and campus operations east of Broadway.

    He has previously worked in a diverse range of health care settings, including NYU Langone Medical Center and its Hospital for Joint Diseases; UC San Diego Medical Center; Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, Ca.; and the Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, Ca.

    Steve received a bachelor’s in economics from New York University and also graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

    Custodial Supervisor, Vagelos Education Center (Days), Campus Operations

    Cesar Cruz joined Columbia University Medical Center in late 2014, bringing 15 years of cleaning experience in hospitals and hotels to the campus. He plays a crucial role in ensuring that custodial operations run smoothly and that the Vagelos Education Center looks great for students, faculty, staff, and guests. Before joining CUMC, Cesar worked for a number of years at Mount Sinai Medical Center in custodial operations.

    Custodial Manager, Campus Operations

    Maurice Davidson oversees all aspects of Facilities Operations during the evening shift, including overnight work. He directly manages three supervisors and more than 60 full-time employees. His work entails directly serving customers in various capacities.

    Maurice prides himself in meeting, head-on, any challenge pertaining to the cleaning and disinfection of labs, classrooms, and office suites. At the same time, he is committed to working proactively to implement solutions that keep problems from reoccurring.

    Maurice Davidson
  • Joseph D. Fernandez

    Supervisor for Material Management, Mail Services, and Receiving, Campus Operations

    Since joining Columbia University Medical Center more than 25 years ago, Joseph Fernandez has been widely recognized for his commitment to the CUMC community. Beginning with his early days delivering packages in the College of Physicians and Surgeons building, Joe has held various positions and duties and assisted in many important projects, including the remodeling of loading docks, mailrooms, and other locations. He aims to provide excellent, professional service to all staff, students, health care practitioners, and professors.

    In 2016, Joe was honored by Facilities Management and Campus Services with a Giraffe Award for consistently going above and beyond the call of duty. He has also been recognized by Columbia University President Lee Bollinger and received multiple other commendations.

  • Francis Lantigua

    Assistant Director for Custodial Services, Campus Operations

    Since 1994, Francis Lantigua has been a valued member of Facilities Management and Campus Services, bringing attention to detail, organizational expertise, and a strong emphasis on customer service to the team. She handles a range of requests, including simple custodial inquiries, support for office renovations and post-construction work, and event support and clean-up. She oversees five supervisors and the three members of the Facilities Customer Service Center, all while ensuring the campus is clean and welcoming for thousands of faculty, students, staff, patients, and daily visitors.

    Francis began her career as a heavy cleaner before taking on roles of increasing responsibility. Throughout her time at CUMC, her primary focus has remained on her customers’ satisfaction.

  • Noel Pagan

    Director, Campus Operations

    Noel Pagan brings more than 35 years of experience with environmental services and laundry and linen operations to Columbia University Medical Center. He oversees all operations within the custodial division, including the Facilities Customer Service Center, the mail room and loading dock operations, the labor team that handles minor moves, and the recycling program. He previously worked at Beth Israel Medical Center and Mount Sinai Medical Center.

    Noel Pagan
  • Enrique Santiago

    Custodial Supervisor (Evenings), Campus Operations

    Enrique Santiago oversees the evening shift of Facilities Operations and overnight operations for Columbia University Medical Center, ensuring that students, employees, and guests find the campus clean and welcoming every morning.

    As a custodial supervisor, Enrique directs more than 60 employees in completing projects and requests. He interacts with and supports clients, upholding one of the central values of the Facilities team: excellent customer service. Prior to joining CUMC, he worked at Morgans Hotel Group, where he held a variety of positions, including assistant front desk manager.

  • Lizbel Vasquez

    Executive Assistant for James Thompsen and Diana Mejia

    Lizbel Vasquez joined the Facilities Management and Campus Services team in late 2016, bringing strong experience in health care and administration to her role as executive assistant for the assistant vice presidents of Facilities Engineering and Facilities Operations.

    Lizbel believes that collaborative team efforts can both improve the quality of services provided to clients and make the time spent at work meaningful. She has experience in adjusting to the complexities and trends of the industry, and recognizes the importance of everyone’s role in creating success in a fast-paced, demanding environment. She previously worked as the manager for various private practices and departments at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. She received a B.S. in health services administration from Lehman College while completing an internship in purchasing at the Amsterdam Nursing Home.

  • Philip Whyte

    Custodial Supervisor (Evenings), Campus Operations

    Philip Whyte joined CUMC Facilities Operations in early 2018 as an evening custodial supervisor. For three years, he served as an assistant portfolio manager for Brooklyn at Westminster Management, Kushner Companies, which owns and manages over 20,000 garden apartments across five states.
