CUMC/NYP Streetscape Project Update, Spring 2016

March 17, 2016

In a joint effort to improve the outdoor experience for our students, staff, patients, and visitors, CUMC Facilities Management and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital will be replacing sidewalks around the medical center over the next few months as part of the campus-wide streetscape project. The streetscape project will provide the medical center with new landscaping, more outdoor seating, and improved exterior surfaces.

Highlights of what to expect:

  • NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital will be replacing the driveway and entrance sidewalk paths at the Herbert Irving Pavilion beginning Monday, March 21. During this time, the Herbert Irving Pavilion driveway and entrance sidewalks will be closed; the main entrance doors to Herbert Irving Pavilion will, however, remain open and accessible through a temporary center path to/from the sidewalk and street. Pick-ups and drop-offs will take place at the street curbside in front of Herbert Irving Pavilion.
  • NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital will be replacing the sidewalks on both sides of Fort Washington Avenue between 165th and 168th Streets beginning Monday, March 21. The sidewalks on both sides of Fort Washington Avenue between 165th and 168th Streets will be partially closed. During this time, there will be temporary sidewalk/street barriers, directional signs, and curb ramps in place to safely redirect pedestrian traffic. There may also be periods of increased noise.
  • CUMC will be replacing the sidewalk along the south side of 168th Street between Fort Washington Avenue and the Emergency Room ambulance bays from approximately late May through mid August. The sidewalk along the south side of 168th Street will be partially closed. During this time, there will be temporary sidewalk/street barriers, directional signs, modified building access routes, and curb ramps in place to safely redirect pedestrian traffic. There may also be periods of increased noise.
