  • Fernando Bedoya

    Senior Project Manager, Capital Project Management

    Fernando Bedoya is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing research lab renovation projects, dental suites, and other projects. He develops budgets models, coordinates schematic phases, maintains construction documents, executes the bidding and contract negotiations, and supervises all phases of construction.

    Before joining Columbia University in 2010, Fernando spent more than a decade as a senior projects manager at Continuum Health Partners, including Beth Israel Medical Center and St. Luke-Roosevelt Hospital. While there, he worked on health-care and non-health-care projects with budgets ranging from $8 to $50 million. He reviewed and coordinated all architectural, engineering, and interior design documents to ensure their compliance with hospital policies and procedures for construction, fire and safety, and infection control, and as well as compliance with Department of Health, Department of Buildings, Fire Department, Joint Commission, and environmental building standards.

    Fernando Bedoya
  • Dejan Bratun

    Associate Director, Capital Project Management

    Dejan Bratun manages the programming, planning, design, and construction of renovations, restorations, and new construction projects. His recent accomplishments include an infrastructure upgrade for the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons as well as other engineering projects. He was promoted from project manager to associate director in the spring of 2017.

    Before joining Columbia University Irving Medical Center in 2012, Dejan practiced engineering at the New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA) and HLW International. At NYCSCA, he coordinated design and reviewed HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection plans for New York City building code compliance, energy conservation code compliance, National Fire Protection Association standards, NYCSCA design requirements, and good engineering practices. At HLW, he designed mechanical and fire suppression systems for various clients. Some of his notable engineering projects include the Taub Institute research space at CUIMC, the SUNY Health Science Center, the News America Marketing Data Center, and the New York City Transit Command Center. He holds a BS from the University of Belgrade and a MBA from California State University.

  • Jorge Carnero

    Senior Project Manager, Capital Project Management

    Jorge Carnero manages and coordinates all phases of major capital and middle-range construction projects, including design and budget development, project evaluation for feasibility and code conformance, bidding, construction, scheduling, quality control, project files, and financial status reports. He ensures that work is completed on time and within budget.

    Jorge is an essential communicator, serving as an owner's representative with consultant architects, engineers, general contractors, construction managers, and other project vendors. He maintains a close working relationship with clients as well as maintenance and operations personnel, continuously informing them of the project status.

    Before joining Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Jorge worked at several architectural firms in New York City as an assistant project architect. He holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from the City College of New York.

  • Lysander Chan

    Project Manager, Capital Project Management

    Lysander Chan joined Columbia University Irving Medical Center in November 2016. As an alumnus of Columbia University, he is excited to be playing a role in revitalizing the campus.

    Previously, Lysander worked with the Manhattanville Development Group of Columbia University as part of the team managing the Lenfest Center for the Arts and the University Forum. He also served as a project manager for Iannelli Construction, a general contractor specializing in K-12 construction. Lysander has worked on new construction; building additions; façade restoration; and renovations of classrooms, laboratories, cafeterias, kitchens, and gymnasiums with the New York City School Construction Authority. He holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering.

    Senior Project Manager

    Catherine Dolan Schweitzer joined Capital Project Management as a senior project manager in the spring of 2018. She brings a depth of experience, having spent nearly 20 years directly managing complex healthcare projects for various clients, including Stamford Hospital in Stamford, CT. Cathy also teaches best practices for healthcare project management as it relates to patient-centered facilities and is the author of the book Health Well Done.

    Anthony Donatich oversees capital budgets, schedules, design, and construction for renovations, restorations, and new construction projects for Columbia University Irving Medical Center's Capital Project Management. He has managed lab expansions, office renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and façade restorations. His recent notable work includes the Columbia University School of Nursing building project and streetscape improvement project. He was promoted from project manager to director in spring of 2017.

    Before joining Columbia University in 2009, Anthony served as director of capital project management for Time Inc., where he led the day-to-day management of capital projects, facilities, and occupancy for three million square feet of the world’s largest magazine publisher. As senior project manager for Jones Lang LaSalle, a leading global real estate firm, he worked on corporate client accounts for Aon, Bank of America, Disney, and Food Network. As assistant vice president of Property Management for NatWest Bank, he oversaw the Design and Construction Department for all retail bank branches in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester. He holds a bachelor of architecture from the Pratt Institute and is a registered architect in New York.

    Joseph Francomano leads the Construction and Refresh Effort (CARE) Crew, a team of skilled workers who refresh and reinvigorate public spaces across the Columbia University Irving Medical Center campus. He oversees the project scope of work; budgets; and the selection and purchase of materials, equipment, and finishes. He also develops and manages schedules for all aspects of projects, including design, construction, end user coordination for information technology, and move-in requirements. Joe prepares requisitions, purchase orders, and change orders; and processes subcontractor change orders and invoices. He has more than 30 years of construction management experience in commercial construction as an estimator, project manager, and field superintendent.

    Joe Francomano
  • Alexandra Hofgaertner

    Project Manager, Capital Project Management

    Since 2011, Alexandra Hofgaertner has served as a project manager for Capital Project Management at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, overseeing programming, design, construction, budgets, and scheduling of capital restoration and renovation projects.

    Previously, Alex practiced architecture and served as project architect at Ricci Greene Associates. Her notable accomplishments include the Bronx Family and Criminal Courthouse and the Kings County Criminal Courthouse. She has also completed numerous residential projects in the greater New York City area.

    She holds a master of architecture from the Karlsruhe Technical University in Germany and a bachelor of arts from the University of Washington.

    Darby Kline joined Columbia University Irving Medical Center's Capital Project Management team in 2016. Previously, she practiced architecture in Philadelphia. She began her career as a designer at Voith & Mactavish Architects, where she contributed to the firm’s vast portfolio of high-end residential, hospitality, and institutional projects. She then joined KieranTimberlake and served as project architect for the renovation of a historic dormitory building and other institutional projects.

    Darby holds a bachelor of architecture degree with a minor in art history from Drexel University. She is a registered architect in New York and Pennsylvania.

    Frank Menard joined Capital Project Management in mid-2017. He began his long career in construction more than 20 years ago as a laborer. Since then, he has managed the construction of new condo developments, commercial office spaces, and advanced medical facilities in hospitals.

    Shirin Pajoohi joined Capital Project Management team in late 2017. As a project manager, she works on the design, construction, and restoration of buildings for Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

    Before joining CUIMC, Shirin spent nearly two years with New York City's Build It Back program, helping citizens affected by Superstorm Sandy elevate, rebuild, or repair their homes in her role as the manager for the Choose Your Own Contractor program. Shirin has also been a project engineer and manager in various capacities in Texas, Arkansas, northeastern Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

    She received her BS in civil engineering from University of Texas at Arlington and is a licensed professional engineer.

    Ben Suzuki provides leadership in all aspects of planning, design, construction, and project management of capital projects for Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

    Ben is a registered architect with more than 24 years of experience in successfully delivering world-class projects in the United States, China, United Kingdom, Kuwait, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. His projects include over 6 million square feet of research, healthcare, higher education, government, institutional, museum, residential, corporate, mercantile, industrial, and infrastructure.

    Before joining Columbia University, Ben was a principal and director of Operations for HOK New York’s Science and Technology Studio. Ben holds a master’s degree in construction administration from Columbia University and a bachelor of architecture from Syracuse University.

    Faten Tayeh joined Capital Project Management as an associate project manager in early 2018. She will assist with the project coordination and tenant outreach related to the multi-year, multi-phase Towers Modernization Project.

    Faten previously held positions at CB&I, first as an environmental scientist and then as a project management specialist. As an environmental scientist, Faten assisted with various environmental compliance and sustainability projects monitoring and evaluating characteristics of water, soil, and energy. As a project management specialist, Faten supported New York City’s Build It Back program, helping citizens affected by Super Storm Sandy.

    She received her BS in environmental studies from California State University, Sacramento.

    Before joining CPM, Santia spent five years as a project engineer on the mechanical, engineering, and plumbing (MEP) team of RAND Engineering & Architecture DPC, a restoration and renovation consulting firm. She received a BS in mechanical engineering with a minor in engineering design from Carnegie Mellon University.

  • Suzy Yoon

    Project Manager, Capital Project Management

    Jisoo Suzy Yoon's primary efforts support the new Columbia University School of Nursing building, assisting with construction administration; furniture, fixtures, and equipment procurement; and relocation management. She also contributed to the streetscape improvement project that has transformed the look and feel of 168th Street.

    In 2014, Suzy began as an associate project manager for the Capital Project Management team. In mid-2017, she was promoted to project manager.

    Before joining Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Suzy was a project manager and project coordinator for Samsung SDS and assistant project manager for Sargenti Architects. She received a bachelor's degree in architecture from Cornell University.
