Announcements

This Fall we will be asking select NHSN hospitals to participate in our important study, Prevention of Nosocomial Infections and Cost Effectiveness Refined or PNICER funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research.

This survey will be used to investigate the impact of infection control processes and state regulated mandatory reporting on rates of device-associated and organism specific healthcare-associated infections (HAI) in acute care across the nation. This is your chance to help shape the future of infection control in this country.

Dr. Elaine Larson, the Editor of the American Journal of Infection Control says: "In the 1980s, the seminal Study on the Efficacy of Nosocomial Infection Control (SENIC) 'defined' the field of infection prevention and control by setting standards that are still used today, even though they are outdated.  For more than 25 years we have been seeking ways to update that seminal study to reflect the dramatic changes in healthcare and the increasingly important and demanding role of the IP. Finally, a study that can reshape and redefine our roles!"

Dr. Robert Haley, the Principal Investigator of the SENIC study, has this to say about the current study: "The results of this study are likely to have important implications for the field of infection prevention and control. This is a terrific opportunity to get involved and help shape the future of the field!”

If you would like more information about the study, please contact the Project Director, Monika Pogorzelska at mp2422@columbia.edu or 212-305-3431.

When the time comes, please participate in this exciting study!
