P&S Student Wellness Committee

The goal of the P&S Student Wellness Committee is to foster the overall well-being of each student at the College of Physicians and Surgeons (P&S).  The committee addresses the emotional, physical, academic, and professional concerns of medical students by 1. Representing the wellness concerns of the P&S medical student body within the larger context of the Columbia University system, 2. Ensuring that all P&S medical students are properly informed of currently available support services, particularly during anticipated times of stress, and 3. Continuously evaluating the appropriateness of student support services relative to student needs and effect change when and where it is required.

The P&S Student Wellness Committee is composed of three elected representatives from each P&S class — one male student, one female student, and one MD/PhD student.  The Committee is advised by the Director of the Center for Student Wellness.  Current members are:

P&S Peer Support Network (PSN)

The first year of medical school can be a difficult time of transition, and it is common to have concerns about academic, social, and personal issues.  PSN is a diverse group of committed second year students who are here to support members of the first year class. PSN offers one-on-one guidance and advisement to students who are experiencing difficulty due to anxiety, academics, relationship issues, adjustment problems, and many more.

All contact with PSN members is strictly confidential. You may email the group at peersupport@columbia.edu or the individuals listed below.

P&S Big Sibs Program

Every new medical student is matched with a second year student who act as initial social, academic and personal contacts, and are available to offer advice, answer questions, and assist in the transition to P&S. Big Sibs contact their little sibs at the beginning of the academic year to arrange a meeting, and often remain in contact throughout the year. This is a student-run, long-standing tradition at P&S that fosters interaction among classes and provides new students with a personal peer resource. 2007-2008 Big Sibs co-coordinators are:
