What is R credit?
- R (Registration) Credit, allows a student to attend a class without having to fulfill the all of the requirements necessary to achieve a standard grade.
The level of participation required for a student to receive R credit is at the discretion of the instructor. The instructor may require some to all of the standard work with the exception of the final exam. An instructor may fail a student who has not completed the assigned work.
Instructors must give permission to students who wish to take a class for R credit.
Most students do not get academic credit for the R grade with the exception of some GSAS Ph.D. students who may be allowed, in certain circumstances, to receive academic R credit.
Students cannot take major or core requirements for R.
The student's school or department determines the per-term and aggregate number of R credits a student is allowed to receive.
Courses taken for R credit are posted on the transcript.
Students pay full tuition for R credit courses.
