Welcome international students.
Health care services may look slightly or significantly different in a new country. At times, this may be challenging or uncomfortable. At SHS, we are intentional about our commitment to diversity and hope that your interaction with us will deepen your understanding of health care in the US.
Navigating the US Health Care System can be complex. To help ensure that international students have access to the highest quality of care on- and off-campus, Columbia University requires all international students to enroll in the Columbia Student Health Insurance Plan.
All international students, regardless of the number of enrolled credits, will be enrolled in the 90 Plan with the option to upgrade to the 100 Plan. All students must log on to Confirm or Upgrade Enrollment before September 30.
On a case-by-case basis, international students may be considered for an exception to this requirement when covered by a US-based group health insurance plan. Examples of what will be considered as an exception for international students are:
New York State Medicaid
US-based, employer-sponsored, ACA-Compliant group plan
Any plan being considered for an exception to the requirement must meet all of the Columbia University waiver requirements. All exemption requests are considered though no approval is guaranteed. All determinations regarding exceptions are made by the Student Health Service Insurance Office at CUIMC shall be considered final.
You are encouraged to contact the Student Health Insurance Team with any questions. They can be reached via email@example.com, 212-305-3206, or by visiting the office on the 3rd Floor, Suites 3D and 3E, of 60 Haven Avenue.
