Columbia Neural Stem Cell Program Mission Statement

The Columbia Neural Stem Cell Program is committed to exploring the biology and therapeutic potential of stem cells for the treatment of neurological disorders. Neural stem cells can be derived from embryonic sources, or from specialized niches in the adult nervous system. Because they have the capacity to generate all of the multiple cell types found in the brain and spinal cord, neural stem cells have the potential to repair tissue injured by trauma or disease. Through joint efforts to promote collaboration, education, and investigation, Columbia scientists in the Neural Stem Cell Program are working to bring this promise closer to reality.
