May 2013. Dr. Emily DiMango is the recipient of this year's Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. This award, which is one of the highest honors that the medical school bestows, is given annually to a physician "who has demonstrated compassionate and devoted patient care, and who has served as a humanistic role model for students and young physicians."

March 2013. In commemoration of World TB Day, Dr. Neil Schluger published an opinion paper in the Financial Times entitled "Institutional complacency raises threat". In this special report, he highlights the need to remain vigilant in the fight against MTB.

March 2013. Congratulations to Dr. Daniel Brodie who received the New York-Presbyterian Patient-Centered Care Physician Champion Award for CUMC on 3/12/2013. This award is to recognize a Physician who has shown exemplary dedication to providing patient centered care and excellent service.

January 2013. Dr. David Chong was appointed as Medical Director, Critical Care Services.

January 2013. Dr. Daniel Brodie was appointed as the Director of the Medical Intensive Care Units and Medical Critical Care Service. This role also encompasses all of our divisional critical care activities including critical care consultation, ventilator management services and our MICUs.

October 2012. Dr. Kashif Raza joined the Lung Transplant Team.

October 2012. MICU B staff were awarded the QPStar Award from NYPH in recognition of their contributions improving patient care in the MICU.

October 2012. Drs. Jeanine D’Armiento and Lynne Johnson were awarded a 3-year new R01, from NIH/NHLBI entitled “Imaging RAGE Pro-inflammatory Signaling and Cellular Apoptosis in Emphysema”

August 2012. Kristin Burkart was elected to the Training and Transitions Committee for American College of Chest Physicians commencing 11/2012. This committee is dedicated meeting the needs of ACCP Affiliate (fellows-in-training) members.

August 2012. Daniel Brodie was elected co-chairman of the Protocols Committee for Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) and Cara Agerstrand was elected co-chairman of the ELSO Sub-Committee on Education.

July 2012. Keith Brenner joined the Columbia Pulmonary Associates Practice providing pulmonary consultative services. Matthew Baldwin studies critical care outcomes and attends on our Critical Care Services. Cara Agerstrand attends on the Critical Care & ECMO services
