New Chief Operating Officer Named

Thomas Jackiewicz
Thomas Jackiewicz will join Columbia University Medical Center as new Chief Operating Officer, starting full-time in January 2007. Mr. Jackiewicz has been associate vice chancellor for finance and administration at UC San Diego Health Sciences since 2001. He is a seasoned senior manager whose portfolio includes a track record of successes at Stanford, Oregon Health Sciences and the University of Pennsylvania.
   At UCSD, Mr. Jackiewicz is a key member of the senior health science management team, working with department chairs and key faculty leaders. He oversees space and facilities, grants and contracts, information technology, and program planning. His oversight of expansion at UCSD has included planning and coordination for two major new structures, a biomedical research building and a cancer center. He was also part of the executive
management team that developed a new model for the UCSD medical center to consolidate inpatient activity at the La Jolla campus.
   Before joining UCSD, Mr. Jackiewicz was senior associate chair for finance and administration in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University’s School of Medicine, director of finance and administration in the Department of Medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University, director of business and financial operations in the Department of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, and director of fiscal operations for the clinical practices of the University of Pennsylvania.
   Mr. Jackiewicz received his M.B.A. at the University of Georgia and his M.P.H. in health policy and management from the Mailman School of Public Health. He is a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges, where he is chair elect of the AAMC Group on Business Affairs and a member of the Medical Group Management Association.
