Apgar Papers Added to National Library Exhibit

The National Library of Medicine has added the papers of the late Virginia Apgar, M.D., to its online collection. Dr. Apgar, one of the most renowned of P&S alumni, created the widely used Apgar Score to evaluate the health of newborns. An anesthesiologist, Dr. Apgar was known for her dedication to clinical teaching and eventually earned her master’s in public health and worked closely with the March of Dimes. The online exhibit features correspondence, published articles, photographs, lectures and speeches from Dr. Apgar’s files that are in the collections of Mount Holyoke College, which Dr. Apgar attended before receiving her M.D. from P&S. The exhibit can be found online at news/pr/jul2006/nlm-13.htm.
