Lee Goldman, M.D

IN HIS FIRST OFFICIAL APPEARANCE IN JUNE, Lee Goldman, M.D., executive vice president and dean, spoke at the Steven Z. Miller Student Clinician Ceremony. The ceremony marked the transition for rising third year students from the preclinical years largely spent in the classroom, to the clinical portion of medical school, which takes place in the hospital and clinics and involves the application of material learned in the classroom to the care of patients. Dr. Goldman spoke about the importance of transitions, mentioning that both he and the students were transitioning simultaneously, and called upon them – in the name of the noble profession of medicine and in the memory of the late Steve Miller, M.D. – to maintain their humanism and learn from their patients. Dr. Miller was a much-beloved teacher and member of the pediatrics faculty who promoted humanism in medicine and died in a plane crash in 2004 while traveling to a workshop to promote compassionate medical care.
