AMA President-Elect Visits P&S

The P&S chapter of the American Medical Association hosted Dr. Peter W. Carmel, president-elect of the AMA, on Sept. 7, 2010. Dr. Carmel is a pediatric neurosurgeon with close ties to P&S: He completed his residency at the Neurological Institute and received a doctorate in neuroanatomy from P&S. Dr. Carmel, who was on the P&S faculty for 27 years, returned to the classroom to speak to an attentive audience of about 80 medical students, mainly first years, on the role of medical students in the AMA and the future of medicine. After a half hour speech, Dr. Carmel participated in a lively question and answer session with the students. – by Jessica Genninger’13, co-president of the P&S Chapter of the AMA AMA president-elect on campus
