The following was submitted by the Department of Anesthesiology.
The P&S community mourns the sudden passing of Dr. Terry Lina Koch in a tragic accident in Mexico on June 21, 2011. Terry received her M.D. from P&S in 1993. She completed an anesthesiology residency followed by a critical care fellowship, also at CUMC. She was appointed as an attending physician in the Department of Anesthesiology where she worked until 2007.
During her tenure at Columbia P&S, Dr. Terry Koch was known as a talented and dedicated critical care clinician, colleague, mentor, and teacher. She was a highly regarded talent who worked tirelessly at research and healing. Her attitude was always kind, caring, and spirited.
In the latter years, Terry spent a majority of her time as a clinical problem solver in the operating rooms and the intensive care units.
She did not shy away from taking charge of the medical treatment of the sickest of critically ill patients and investigating the most complex of medical dilemmas. Outside of the hospital Terry found much happiness traveling the world with her husband and children while creating many wonderful family memories. (The photo shows her on the Ganges River in India in 2004.) Terry will always be known for her compassion and devotion by those whose lives she touched and enriched.
Terry is survived by her husband, Allen Fienberg; daughters Yona and Ruby Koch-Fienberg; father, Eric Koch; and sister, Tracy Koch.
