Class of 1984

An October 2011 Washington University profile of Andrey Shaw, the Emil R. Unanue Professor of Immunobiology in Pathology and Immunology at Washington University’s School of Medicine in St. Louis, discusses his decision to attend medical school after getting a degree in music from Columbia and the transition after he enrolled at P&S. “I was spending most of my days practicing piano, and I flunked my anatomy final,” Dr. Shaw says. “That was kind of a wake-up call, so I stopped playing the piano and started to focus on medical school.” The profile, which includes a photo of his wife, Cynthia Florin’84, a psychiatrist in private practice, can be found online here.
