Music on the Heights
On Nov. 25, the P&S Musicians' Guild presented a gala recital of diverse musical talents and tones to benefit the restoration of Bard Hall's Steinway grand pianos. The concert, which was well attended by members of the P&S community, ranged from solo piano to an accompanied operatic aria to lieder, quartet, and a cappella singing. Among the highlights was a Haydn string quartet played on instruments made by the late Virginia Apgar'33. The recital was produced by the guild un guild under the direction of Parswa Ansari'99 and Heidi Hopkins'99. A reception followed the performance, which was sponsored by the Alumni Association.
On Dec. 18, the P&S community was regaled by a quartet comprising pianist June Wu'96, a postdoctoral research fellow in surgery; violist Julie Lin'96, an intern in medicine; cellist Drew Helmer'97, who recently completed his M.S. degree in health policy and management at the School of Public Health; and clarinetist Frank David, an M.D./Ph.D. candidate in pathology. The program, co-sponsored by the Alumni Association and the Musicians' Guild, included works by Mozart, Bruch, and Brahms. The Alumni Association welcomed all to a reception after the performance.
