P&S Journal: Winter 1997, Vol.17, No.1
P & S News
First-year P&S students--members of the Class of 2000--were ceremonially "cloaked" with their first white coat and recited the Hippocratic Oath for the first time during welcoming ceremonies last August. The White Coat Ceremony, established at Columbia University in 1993, is an annual custom for Columbia's medical students and is intended to instill in incoming medical students a sense of responsibility and professionalism for clinical excellence and compassionate care. The ceremony is sponsored by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation. Dr. Gold is shown here helping a student with his coat.
