Women's Resource Center Grand Opening
On Oct. 19, Nancy Rupp, wife of Columbia President George Rupp, and Dr. Phoebe Speck, wife of Presbyterian Hospital President William T. Speck, cut the ribbon to officially open the new Women's Resource Center in the Energy Court. Also there to lend a hand were Women's Resource Center co-directors, Dr. Anne Bernstein and Claire Holderness'96. Dean Herbert Pardes, who jubilantly announced that he had just come from the bedside of his daughter-in-law, who gave birth that day to twin daughters, saluted the celebrants and acknowledged the importance of the center. The center's purpose is to provide a communication network among organizations at CPMC to address issues of concern to women. Guest speaker, Ruth Messinger, Manhattan borough president, voiced her dream for the new center: "I really see this center as addressing everything from the most practical needs of women...to a mentoring across the lines of job classification and category and mentoring to the community." The Alumni Association has lent its active support to the effort. The event was well-attended.
