Primary Care Grant
The State of New York has awarded P&S a one-year, $350,000 grant to enhance primary care programs in the curriculum and maintain a model education program in primary care for undergraduate medical students.
The funding supports the newly developed primary care clerkship and strengthens related aspects of the curriculum, especially the Introduction to Clinical Practice course. A set of standardized clinical cases will be developed for this course to guide learning about the primary care physician's role in coordinating and following patient care. These cases will encompass psychological, family, community, ethical, preventive, economic, and epidemiological dimensions of patient care.
In addition, the funding supports a program of faculty development that will train and educate clinical faculty about other innovative and productive methods for training students in primary care.
