Irving Rosenbaum is medical director of Pines Nursing Home in Sarasota, Fla.
Erwin Michaelson , who enjoys retirement in Florida playing golf and bridge and attending concerts and theater, still finds time to attend obstetrics and gynecology meetings.
William Parson is teaching an elective course in humanities in medicine at the University of Virginia, where he is emeritus professor of medicine. He also is clinical professor of medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he lives.
Robert Fisher of Bryn Mawr, Pa., writes that he retired October 16, 1992, at 8 a.m. He practiced family medicine for many years.
Although semiretired, Stuart Eisenberg , professor of radiology, still works three days a week in a busy teaching hospital emergency room. He lives in Richmond, Va.
William Donnelly of Southampton, N.Y., writes that he is a famous vegetable gardener working with his wife, Marie, a renowned horticulturist.... Allen Wheelis has published another novel, "The Way Things Are" (Baskerville Publishers).
Kenneth Calder practices psychiatry and psychoanalysis in New York City. He has been president of the New York Psychoanalytic Institute and the American Psychoanalytic Association. He is married to Abbie Knowlton'42 , president of the P&S Alumni Association.
Florentino Pina retired in November 1991 from practice as director of the diagnostic ultrasound service of the Waltham Weston Hospital and Medical Center in Waltham, Mass.
Morton Creditor is professor emeritus of medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He retired in January 1993.... Although retired from active practice, Edwin Long keeps busy as president of Roxbury Press Inc., working to improve rural health care for the State of Missouri and in health care reform.
Hyman Gold retired two years ago but has kept busy doing volunteer work, learning Yiddish, writing commentaries on Jewish biblical folk stories, and running in Central Park, among other activities. He also works part time at a union health center.... Saul Gusberg is emeritus professor and chairman of gynecology (oncology) at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
Three years ago, at the age of 80, George Harris of Prescott, Ariz., started taking drum lessons and now plays in the local college community band. He also works part time at the local VA Hospital and pursues his hobbies of amateur radio and golf.
Julian Schorr is medical director of the Spofford Juvenile Detention Center in New York City.... Donald Senhauser has completed a two-year term as president of the College of American Pathologists. He is chairman emeritus of pathology at the College of Medicine, Ohio State University, and continues teaching full time.
Robert Bragg has retired as professor of psychiatry at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He lives in Tallahassee.... Garth Dettinger of Fort Belvoir, Va., is a surgical consultant
to the CIA and works in two obstetrical clinics for the needy. He and his wife, Ruthie, recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
Joe Mackie has a full-time practice in internal medicine in Boston.
Bert Horwitz , who lives in Brightwaters, N.Y., is president of the New York State Society of Orthopedic Surgeons....The Class of 1958 had a mini reunion in Minneapolis last winter, prompted by a visit by Carl Weiss to see his son, an intern at University Hospital. Also in attendance were Bill Kane , Larry Boies , and Jerry Dougan .
Gerasim Tikoff is chief of staff at the Hines VA Hospital and professor of medicine and associate dean for veteran affairs at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Ill.
Al Janoski continues as the full-time medical director of Prudential Insurance Company for the Baltimore Washington area, which has a combined membership in managed care plans (HMOs and PPOs) of 240,000 individuals.... William Reichel has a new book, "Planning for Uncertainty: A Guide to Living Wills and Other Advance Directives for Health Care," which he co-authored with David Doukas. The book is published by Johns Hopkins University Press. Dr. Reichel is clinical professor of community health at Tufts University School of Medicine and adjunct professor of family medicine at Brown University School of Medicine.... Charles Watson writes that he is having fun as professor and vice chairman of surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.
At a ceremony at the White House last winter, during which UNICEF's executive director presented a report, "State of the World's Children," President Clinton honored six "health heroes" for their contributions to improving the health of children. Among them was Norbert Hirschhorn , visiting professor at the University of Minnesota and vice president of John Snow Inc.... Joel Kraut has been elected president of the eye staff of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary for the current year and presidentelect of the entire medical staff for the following year. He is now director of the Vision Rehabilitation Service and has a private practice in Brookline.
Plenum Press has published a monograph by Rolf Barth , co-edited with A.H. Soloway and D.E. Carpenter, titled "Advances in Neutron Capture Therapy."... David Forrest writes that he has returned to a literary interest he had before coming to P&S. His book, "A First Look at the Dreams of e.e. cummings: The Preconscious of a Synesthetic Genius," was the topic of discussion at the January 1994 meeting of the Association for Psychoanalytic Medicine.... Watson Reid of Lincoln, Mass., has retired from his practice in psychiatry and has opened a recording studio, Walden Green.
Peter Smith is chief of pulmonary medicine at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn.
David Hillis , professor of medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, has become a member of the editorial board of the New England Journal of Medicine.... Peter Shaw is governor elect of the Maine chapter of the American College of Cardiology. His wife, Barbara, plans to practice civil litigation with a firm in Portland after she takes her bar exams this fall.
Jefferson Kaye is acting chairman of orthopedic surgery at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation Clinic in Shreveport, La.
Patrick McGrath , associate professor of clinical psychiatry at P&S, has received a five-year grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism to study the treatment of depression in alcoholics.... Alan Schwartz has been named the Margaret Milliken Hatch Clinical Professor of Medicine at P&S. A cardiologist, he also is on the staff of Presbyterian Hospital.... Michael Weingarten received the 1993 dean's award for excellence in teaching at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he also was promoted to clinical associate professor of surgery. He is chief of the division of vascular surgery.... David White is practicing internal medicine in Minneapolis and is a test pilot in the Twin Cities.
Steven Gambert has been appointed acting chairman of medicine at New York Medical College.... Eric Rose , professor of surgery and director of the cardiac transplant program at CPMC, was one of six Columbia College alumni who received a John Jay Award for professional achievement at a black-tie dinner March 10, 1994. .... Kenneth Zeitler , a partner at the Raleigh, N.C., Hematology-Oncology Clinic, says he misses the carefree days of medical school and feels the success in his professional life has been due, in large measure, to the education he received at P&S. 1977
Stan Arkow is associate professor of psychiatry at P&S and director of inpatient psychiatry on Neuro 12 of Presbyterian Hospital. He and his wife, Cindy Aaronson, live with their two children in Scarsdale, N.Y.... Harvey Makadon is co-director of general medicine and primary care at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and is involved in developing educational material on AIDS and HIV for primary care providers.... Nancy Otto is a hand surgeon in San Antonio, Texas. Her husband, Phil Valente , is associate professor of pathology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. They have three children and enjoy life in south Texas.
Julian Allen of Bala Cynwyd, Pa., has been awarded a five-year grant from the NIH to study pulmonary complications of sickle cell disease in children.... Joseph Friedman is professor of clinical neurosciences at Brown University School of Medicine and chief of neurology at the Roger Williams Medical Center. He is also director of the Brown University Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Unit.... Jane Mossberg writes that she is "sweating it out in private practice here in the land of 'managed care' (Oregon)." Since leaving P&S she has had two daughters, been divorced, and acquired two cats, a dog, and two birds. She still misses New York City.
Joel Chodos has a solo practice in gastroenterology in Dover, Del. He and his wife, Dr. Melinda Randall, an anesthesiologist at the Medical Center of Delaware, had a son in February 1993.
Nannette Goldstein of Summit, N.J., writes that she is juggling a private practice in psychiatry and raising a family. She has two children, ages 10 and 7....In addition to continuing his practice in family medicine, Gary Sobelson of Concord, N.H., has become active in local and national health care reform. He served on the statewide committee to educate the public about the president's program.... Neil Stein , who is clinical assistant professor of medicine at Cornell University Medical College, has a practice in cardiology in Queens and is also on the staff at North Shore University and St. Francis hospitals. He and his wife, Marcie, have four children.
Jonathan Griswold , an assistant professor in anesthesiology at Tufts University School of Medicine, writes, "One lovely wife, two lovely children, what more could one ask for?".... Philip Roth is associate director of neonatology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He and his wife, Ruth, have three children.
Jose Alonso is medical director of the day hospital and of geriatric rehab services at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute in Edison, N.J. He and his wife, Barbara Palmer'84 , a psychiatrist on the staff of Bergen Pines Hospital in Paramus, N.J., have two children.... David Friedman is a neuroradiology attending at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He has been awarded the Figley Fellowship in radiology-journalism, an award sponsored by the American Journal of Roentgenology. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have a son, Daniel, born in November 1993.... Ted Gutowski is in private practice in interventional cardiology in New Brunswick and Manalapan, N.J.
Ann (Pawlowski) Burnham has a private practice in ophthalmology in Lexington, Mass. She and her husband have two sons.... Sally Cohen has a private practice in internal medicine in Ridgewood, N.J.... Linda Greenbaum is a gastroenterology fellow at the University of Pennsylvania studying the molecular biology of liver regeneration. She and her husband, Michael Plotnick, have two children.
Laurie Jacobs is acting director of geriatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Hospital and the mother of two young daughters. She says, "It's busy!".... David Klumpar and his wife, Page, are happily settled in Chapel Hill, where he is finishing his dermatology training at Duke. His wife runs the oral surgery clinic at UNC. They are happy to see friends and alumni anytime.... Lee Ellen Morrone has a private practice in obstetrics and gynecology in Manhattan and last year had her second child.... Vijay Thadani , who is living in Norwich, Vt., has a son born in September 1993.
Julie Lewin Barudin is doing mammography at the University of Pennsylvania. She and her husband have two children.... Noah Friedman , assistant clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego, has become a partner at Kaiser. He and his wife have two children. .... Christopher Rapuano is a partner in Corneal Associates at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
Kati Andreasson is at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine's Department of Neurology, as are Bob Shapiro'87 and Gerald Dalpan'86 . She and her husband, Philip A. Beachy, have two boys.... David Bichell is doing a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston.... Bard Cosman , along with Pamela, Benjamin, and Rafael, moved to Minnesota, where he is doing a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Minnesota Hospital.... Karen Peterson , who is living in Oxbridge, Mass., with her husband, Rob Kittredge, and their two children, is working at a community health center affiliated with the University of Massachusetts. Karen writes that she feels far removed from 168th Street in her present location, where a working dairy and several horse farms are just down the street.... Rusty Rodts is in Atlanta for a one-year fellowship in spinal neurosurgery and is also an attending at Grady Hospital.
Lori Miller is in family practice at the Tanana Valley Clinic in Fairbanks, Alaska. Her husband, Robert, is working at the Bassett Army Community Hospital in Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
Anne Armstrong-Coben is working with the general pediatric group practice at Babies Hospital at CPMC. She and Harlan have a daughter, Charlotte, born March 28, 1994.... Judith Hellman plans a fellowship in critical care after completing training in anesthesia at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She and her husband, John Bordiuk'88 , have two children.... Denise McCarthy has a fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, having completed training in diagnostic radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. 1990
Sally Jo Belcher , who is in Los Angeles, Calif., has a daughter born in February 1993.... Alexa Carls and Michael Hogarty were married Aug. 28, 1993. Last year they graduated from the Northwestern University pediatric residency program at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Michael is currently pursuing a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, while Alexa is a fellow in pediatric cardiology at the same institution.... Gregory Gersten was married last October to Joanne Shirlaw, a social worker at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Gregory is a resident in radiology at the University of Southern California-Los Angeles County Medical Center.... Laurie Nash , a fellow in pulmonary medicine at CPMC, was married April 9, 1994, to Mark Dursztman, who received his M.D. degree from New York University.
Anthony Avellino is training in neurosurgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. He was recently married to Jennifer C. Smith of Virginia.... Rick Hardart , Janet Kwiatkowski , Zizzy Zenowich , and John Zorc are pediatric residents at Johns Hopkins. Zizzy and John Bucchieri'93 plan to be married in September .... Elizabeth Webster was married last fall to Dr. Stephan Anthony Mayer. Elizabeth is doing a residency in internal medicine at CPMC, where her husband is a fellow in neurology.
