Dinner Dance and Awards Ceremony
Festivities went afloat this year for a dinner-dance cruise Saturday night aboard the Spirit of New York in New York Harbor, providing passengers with a spectacular backdrop that included the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty.
Alumni Association president Abbie I. Knowlton'42 officiated at the ceremonies that included remarks by the 50th and 25th anniversary class chairmen, Henry Clay Frick II'44 and John Bilezikian'69, and graduating class president, Kevin Williams.
Paul A. Marks'49, recipient of the Gold Medal for distinguished achievements in medicine, was in Moscow as part of an official White House medical delegation, but his son-in-law, Harry Ostrer'76, accepted the medal on his behalf. The recipient of the Gold Medal for excellence in clinical medicine, Dr. Harold C. Neu, who is in ailing health, was saluted in absentia by a standing ovation. His wife, Carmen Ortiz-Neu'63 accepted the medal and read a stirring letter from her husband. The Silver Medal for meritorious service to P&S and its Alumni Association went to Lewis Lane'74. The Bronze Medal to a graduating senior for demonstrated devotion to the school and its alumni went to P&S Club president Alistair B.M. Phillips. Dean Pardes delivered concluding remarks, signaling the band to let loose as doctors-soon-to-be and seasoned-rocked the boat as it slowly pulled into harbor.
