Elting Fitness Facility Dedicated

"Come down here any day between 5 and 7 p.m., and you'll see for yourself how vital this facility is," said Bard Hall athletic coordinator Edward Schaeffer in summing up the importance of the James J. Elting'66 Fitness Facility at a dedication ceremony Dec. 3. Anke Nolting, associate dean and executive director of alumni relations, saluted Dr. Elting as a physical fitness enthusiast "three decades ahead of his time" and thanked him on behalf of the alumni. The upstate New York orthopedic surgeon, who has lent his medical expertise to the U.S. Olympics team and consulted at numerous World Cup events, was on hand with his wife, Karen, and son, William. As an alumnus, he said, "I see myself as a guardian of the quality of life for P&S students." Ron Drusin'66, associate dean for curricular affairs and Dr. Elting's classmate, recalled how "our class spent a lot of time down here in the bowels of Bard Hall," a far cry then from today's modern state-of-the-art athletic facilities. A reception followed the dedication.
