The John J. Fenoglio Jr., M.D., Library in the Department of Pathology opened in November on the 15th floor of the PH Building.
Dr. Fenoglio, who died of AIDS in 1989 at age 46, started his career at CPMC in 1969 as a pathology fellow and rose to professor and acting chairman of the department from 1985 to 1987. He then served as vice chairman.
"He was a world-recognized authority on cardiac disease," says Dr. Michael Shelanski, chairman of pathology, who organized the fund-raising effort to build the library. "Dr. Fenoglio was well-loved by his colleagues in the department and nationwide. He also encouraged the careers of support staff." Hundreds of donations in all sizes from friends of Dr. Fenoglio paid for a substantial portion of the $100,000 library.
The library contains journals and textbooks specializing in pathology.
