Allergy and Immunology

Allergies and asthma are among the most common health problems in the U.S., affecting about 50 million people each year. Our faculty diagnose and treat infants, children and adults for allergic conditions and immune deficiencies, including the following:

  • anaphylaxis
  • asthma
  • atopic dermatitis
  • contact dermatitis
  • chronic sinusitis
  • drug reactions
  • eosinophilic esophagitis
  • hives
  • immunodeficiency
  • insect allergies
  • latex allergies
  • rhinitis

We also evaluate patients with primary immunodeficiencies and eosinophilic esophagitis, as well as hereditary angioneurotic edema, a swelling in the deep layers of the skin.
Working closely with patients and their families, our physicians pinpoint allergy triggers and develop a treatment plan based on a comprehensive medical history and diagnostic testing. You can rest assured that our physicians are knowledgeable about the latest and most effective therapies available.
We also have a food allergy center. Skin testing, Rast testing, patch testing and food challenges are performed, depending on how the reaction presents itself. In addition, our physicians also perform the following diagnostic tests:

  • intradermal testing for environmental allergies
  • pulmonary function testing for asthmatics
  • rhinoscopy for patients with chronic nasal symptoms

Education is a key component of our program. We take time to focus on recognizing and eliminating the triggers that can lead to their allergic reactions. We also help our patients understand their medications and how to use them. In addition, we often collaborate with colleagues in other disciplines to offer our patients the most comprehensive treatment available.
