Watch Dr. Manuela Orjuela Discuss the Global Health Initiative

Manuela Orjuela, MD, is collaborating with investigators in Great Britain and Mexico and two National Cancer Institute sponsored projects. Working in close collaboration with Dr Dorothy Warburton in the Department of Genetics, and Drs Anthony Ford and Mel Greaves of Institute for Cancer Research, Surrey, U.K., the first project evaluates pre- natal environmental exposures that may increase the risk of childhood ALL. The second project entitled Folate Deficiency, Metabolism and Sporadic Retinoblastoma, examines the role that gene- nutrient interactions play in the development of retinoblastoma and RB1 mutations. Collaborators include investigators fromthe Hospital Infantil de Mexico, the Nutrition Epidemiology group of the Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica, the Hospital de Pediatria Siglo XXI of the Instituto Mexicano de Seguro Social (IMSS), and the Instituto de Fisiologia Celular of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM).
