Watch Dr. Kara Kelly Speak About Complementary and Alternative Medicine
Kara Kelly, MD and colleagues are collaborating with investigators at the Prasanta Banerji Homeopathic Research Foundation, Kolkata, India in a study that includes a homeopathic regimen, ruta 6/Calc phos, on tumor growth and survival using a PDGF driven rodent model of glioblastoma the most common and most malignant form of primary brain tumors. Patients diagnosed with glioblastoma often turn to complementary/alternative medical systems in hopes of curing the disease. Ruta 6 and Calcium Phosphate (Ruta 6/Calc Phos) is one of the most popular homeopathic remedies adopted by individuals diagnosed with glioblastoma; however, little scientific data exists exploring its efficacy. There is a need for preclinical studies exploring the effects of Ruta 6/Calc Phos to provide scientific evidence for health care providers to advise patients on this popular regimen. Future trials are anticipated and fellows and residents are encouraged to participate.
