Watch Dr. Gary Brittenham Discuss the Global Health Initiative
Gary Brittenham, Chief of the Division of Hematology has an international reputation for his work in iron metabolism and malaria. His worldwide projects are supported by the United States National Institutes of Health and involve collaborators in Bangkok, Thailand, Hong Kong, Peoples' Republic of China, and Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Brittenham presently has four on-going projects; the first examines the effects of acute infection with Plasmodium falciparum on the absorption, pharmacokinetics and metabolism of iron from iron supplements and other iron interventions in women of childbearing age, using non-radioactive, stable isotopes of iron (54Fe, 57Fe, and 58Fe).
