The Student Ambassador Program

The Student Ambassador Program at Columbia University’s School of Nursing seeks to motivate students to embrace the School’s public relations efforts, by acting as an active participant in its most prominent student centered programs and events ranging from recruitment to speaking engagements. Ambassadors will work with faculty and staff as well as current and prospective students to promote SON’s programs and services. Specifically, we will look to our ambassadors to take-on an active role at events that include Orientation, Visiting Day, alumni receptions, campus tours, and special events.

As the face of the student body at public events, we strive to include students from all walks of life into the program.

The Ambassadors' responsibilities include:

  • Welcome and guide prospective students during Visiting Day, Orientation and other events when deemed appropriate
  • Act as a mentor to first-year students
  • Direct campus tours
  • Provide student staffing at College programs both on and off campus
  • Plan and attend events for members such as holiday parties, end-of-year receptions, and social events.

Ambassadors enjoy important advantages from membership:

  • Unparalleled experience in public relations (meeting people, public speaking, representing the College) which develops the skills and confidence vital to success in job interviews and career advancement
  • Broaden contacts among faculty, staff, students, and administration
  • Promote the benefits of attending SON; providing incoming students with an accurate depiction of what to expect academically and socially at the School
  • Participation in a close-knit, nurturing student organization which enables members to feel more connected to the College

Membership in the School of Nursing’s Student Ambassador Program is limited. Please contact K. Sasha Best at if you are interested in learning more about the program.
