The School of Nursing received its first economic stimulus grant. Led by Suzanne Bakken, DNSc, Alumni Professor of Nursing and Professor of Biomedical Informatics, the $250,000 supplement to the Center for Evidence-based Practice in the Underserved funds a two year summer education program for a science educator and 12 students from Gregorio Luperon High School, a science and mathematics high school for Latino immigrants. The focus of the program is disseminating research findings into the community and targets include improving glycemic control among those with diabetes and increasing physical activity among adolescents.
