| Research/Clinical Interests |
| Dr Kearney's background is in child and adolescent psychiatry as well as developmental psychology. She is a core faculty member of the CUSON Center for Children and Families and is an expert in the psychiatric assessment and treatment of children and adolescents. Her clinical interests include infant, preschool and child psychiatry, early onset mood disorders, risk and traumatic stress in caregivers and children; and maternal depression, trauma and mental illness. She is currently coordinating the expansion of the core specialization in child and adolescent psychiatry with a focus on trauma, attachment, and neurobiology of development and early psychopathology. She is trained in a number of attachment based and representational measures for use in research including the Reaction to Diagnosis Interview, the MacArthur Story Stem Battery and Reflective Functioning measures. One of her current research projects includes work on the development of a new tool to assess psychological engagement of parents in treatment planning across pediatric specialties including palliative care and psychiatric trauma populations. Her general research interests include developmental psychopathology and attachment and caregiving systems in families at risk, specifically,families exposed to violence and families with seriously ill children. She is interested in video assisted feedback and relationally based intervention studies with caregivers and children at high risk.
