Stroud Center Opening

The Morris W. Stroud III Center for Study of Quality of Life and the Sidney Katz Professorship were officially celebrated this spring at a reception in the Faculty Club. The Faculty of Medicine and the New York State Psychiatric Institute invited faculty, staff, and friends of the Stroud Center to honor the late Dr. Stroud, whose work made him a pioneer in rehabilitation and geriatric medicine. The new professorship is named in honor of Dr. Sidney Katz, professor emeritus of geriatric medicine. Dr. Barry J. Gurland, the first Sidney Katz Professor and director of the Stroud Center, told reception guests that since he couldn't be Professor Sidney Katz himself, he would be honored to be the Sidney Katz Professor. At left, Dr. Gurland is congratulated by Dr. John M. Oldham, director of the New York State Psychiatric Institute, center, and Dr. Donald F. Tapley, senior deputy vice president and P&S alumni professor of medicine, right.
