Library Gets Facelift

Renovations at the Health Sciences Library this summer and fall marked the Office of Scholarly Resources' continuing effort to make the library a more conducive environment for study and research.

New lighting was installed on lower level 1, and new carpeting was installed on the second floor, lower level 1, and in the lobby area of lower level 2. Also, several additional improvements were made to the Media and Microcomputer Center.

After recarpeting, the library reconfigured the audiovisual carrels in the media center to allow greater group access to audiovisual equipment and multimedia stations, and space was allocated for the new Curriculum Design Studio. This studio provides faculty and students with state-of-the-art software authoring and design tools on both Macintosh and IBM-compatible workstations. Also, technicians wired the media center's Macintosh computers for high-speed access to the campus network and the Internet.

Most recently, a computer room with 24-hour access to seven IBM-compatible and seven Macintosh workstations opened near the library's lobby.

Future plans call for additional seating, lighting improvements, and renovation of the leisure reading room.
