St. Vincent’s Health Services

St. Vincent’s Health ServicesAffiliated in 1998 and located in the residential north end of Bridgeport, Conn., St. Vincent’s Medical Center is an acute care and teaching hospital with 391 licensed beds. The center is just one component of St. Vincent’s Health Services, an integrated health delivery network that includes numerous other components throughout the region.

St. Vincent’s Medical Center features five centers of excellence: cardiovascular, oncology, senior’s, women’s and family, and behavioral health.

HCIA of Baltimore, a national health care information and data management company, included the Cardiovascular Center in its list of 100 top cardiovascular hospitals in the United States. In 1995, the center implemented PAMI (primary angioplasty for myocardial infarction), a program that assures 24-hour availability of emergency angioplasty within one hour.

The Oncology Center offers a full range of medical, radiological, and surgical therapies, as well as education, prevention, screening, and support programs.

Along with day and home care, the Senior’s Center offers orthopedic services, ranging from arthroscopic surgery to knee, hip, and shoulder replacement.

The Women’s and Family Center’s 16-room LDRP (labor-delivery-recover-postpartum) suite includes private rooms, baths, and sleeping accommodations for expectant fathers.

The Behavioral Health Center offers services for substance abuse and psychiatric patients.

Residency training is offered in radiology, internal medicine (including categorical and preliminary positions) and the transitional year. Fellowship appointments in pulmonary, gastroenterology, and oncology are offered through their respective divisions.

St. Vincent’s was recently awarded the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations’ Accreditation with Commendation for the second consecutive time, which is given only to the top 4 percent of hospitals in the country. Columbia students rotate to St. Vincent’s for physical diagnosis and primary care.

Stamford Hospital

Stamford HospitalAffiliated with Columbia in 1998, this not-for-profit teaching hospital has served Stamford, Conn., and the surrounding communities for more than 100 years. It has 305 inpatient beds in medicine, surgery, obstetrics/gynecology, psychiatry, and medical and surgical intensive care units.

Stamford boasts many medical, surgical, and psychiatric specialties. Medical specialties include cardiology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, infectious diseases, neurology, and pulmonary medicine. Surgical examples are neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otorhinolaryngology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, thoracic surgery, and urology. Psychiatric services include inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, and specialized adolescent programs.

Stamford Hospital has a tradition of serving its community with outreach and education programs and health and wellness programs. It also provides a free physician referral service through MedMatch.

Stamford Hospital offers medical residency training programs in internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, psychiatry, and family medicine. The hospital also offers a School of Radiology, Clinical Pastoral Education Program, and EMS Institute for emergency medical training. Stamford provides teaching for Columbia students in primary care, medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, psychiatry, surgery, and a variety of elective courses.

Bassett Healthcare

Affiliated since 1947, this network of facilities serves a 10-county region of central New York.

The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital is a 180-bed tertiary care inpatient teaching facility in Cooperstown, NY The Bassett Physician Group is composed of more than 180 physicians. Members of this closed group practice conduct patientBassett Healthcare care, teaching, and research in Cooperstown and around the region. The Bassett Clinic is an outpatient primary and specialty care center in Cooperstown. The O’Connor Hospital is a rural hospital facility located 40 miles south of Cooperstown in Delhi, NY The Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County is a 40-bed hospital facility located 40 miles east of Cooperstown in Cobleskill, NY

Regional health centers comprise a network of more than a dozen Bassett outpatient health centers offering primary care and, at certain sites, specialty services. The Research Institute in Cooperstown is a center for basic, clinical, and population studies. Studies conducted there have regional, statewide, and national impact. Educational and training programs for physicians, nurses, and other health professionals ensure health care services for the region and beyond. The New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health promotes safer farmsteads and healthier farm families through prevention, outreach, treatment, and educational programs. CHP of Bassett is the area’s first health maintenance organization, which was introduced in 1986.

The Louis Busch Hager Cancer Center offers comprehensive services and a caring staff of specialists in hematology/oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, and other disciplines. The area trauma center is a state-designated trauma center that cares for people with life-threatening injuries. Friends of Bassett is a foundation dedicated to fundraising and Bassett improvement projects throughout the region. The Bassett Auxiliary provides hospital and community support through volunteer programs and fundraising efforts. Hannah-Lee House is a home away from home for Bassett patients and family members.
