The Audubon Biomedical Science and Technology Park has partnered with the West Harlem Art Fund to present ongoing art exhibits in the lobbies of the Mary Lasker Building and the Russ Berrie Medical Science Pavilion. The two locations feature exhibits from urban, contemporary, African, and Latino artworks. Art is extremely powerful because it demands thought and evokes the ability for a society to heal itself, says art fund founder Savona McClain. We are very pleased with our partnership with Columbia and Audubon Park, because we believe that art should be accessible to everyone. This partnership allows artists to present their craft to local residents and members of the Columbia community. The most recent exhibit began this month. It features the work of local artist Rogelio Mendoza. The native of Guadalajara, Mexico, is studying at the New School in New York. Ms. McClain says the art fund will continue to provide soul-stirring exhibitions and encourage the Columbia community to visit, provide feedback, and even participate. |R Rehabilitation Medicines New Library Dedicated to Founder
The space for the facility had been a urology procedure suite. When the wing on the first floor of the Harkness Pavilion was made available to Rehabilitation Medicine, the departments offices were consolidated in that area. What was lacking was a state-of-the-art dual purpose library and conference room facility, says Dr. James Lieberman, Corning Professor and Chairman of Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. Lieberman explains that the department has a conference roomand it is still in usebut it is not centrally located, nor does it possess the equipment featured in this new facility. |R
