FlashBack

Ninety years ago, a banquet dinner was held by the Association of the Alumni of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in the City of New York. At the time of the dinner, March 2, 1909, the alumni association was 50 years old.

The group was launched in earnest on March 11, 1859, after a meeting of about 200 P&S graduates at the house of Dr. Edward Delafield’1816 on East 17th Street. As it does today, the association made supporting the college a priority by providing funds, awards, and grants. It was incorporated on May 12, 1873. Dr. Samuel W. Lambert’1885 was president of the association pictured.

Not much detail of this particular gathering is known, save what was written on the actual photograph: “Alumni of the Physicians & Surgeons of N.Y., Sherry’s, March 2nd, 1909,” and “Photo by Drucker & Co., 204 W. 43rd St. N.Y.”
