Online File Sharing Options

    Microsoft's SkyDrive

    Free: You get 25GB of free space.
    Requirement: A hotmail or live e-mail account.
    Sharing: You can share any files through the browser, and can create a URL linking directly to the folder containing the assets.


    Dropbox

    Free: You get 2GB of free space (plus additional 512MB if you get others to sign up). Account holder installs a client-side app that acts as an uploader.
    Paid: 50 GB for $9.99 per month or $99.00 per year.
    Sharing: You can share any files through the browser, and can create a URL linking directly to the asset.


    drop.io

    Free: You create an account name (no password), and are given a 100 MB web-based dropbox.
    Paid: The cost is $10 per gigabyte per year.
    Sharing: With a free dropbox, anyone has read/write access to the dropbox simply by accessing the url. Adding a guest password is possible when first creating the dropbox

    yousendit

    Free: a free 'yousendit lite' account allows 100 MB of storage, up to 100 uploads.
    Paid: yousendit is a very robust suite of file transfer services, with different 'packages'. The 'entry-level' Pro Account allows you to send multiple files up to 2GB in size and track delivery. It also allows multiple files up to 2GB each in a browser-based public dropbox. This package is $9.99/month or $109.99/yearly, which allows 2 GB of long-term storage, and additional storage can be purchased at $4.99 per GB. 40 GB of download bandwidth each month.
    Sharing: Browser-based public dropbox. Send files via a hyperlink that initiates download on the receiving end.


    senduit

    Free: You can upload one file up to 100 MB, and senduit gives you a link to that file. They host for up to one week, after which time the link expires. It's similar to tinyurl, but for file transfers.
    Paid: No paid service.
    Sharing: No account settings. A distributed link initiates the download.

    dropboks

    Free: Dropboks allows you to create an account and upload up to 1 GB of data for free, no expiration. However, individual file sizes are limited to 50 MB, which is very restrictive.
    Paid: 2 GB, 200 MB file size maximum for $2/month.
    Sharing: No sharing, for multiple users to access uploaded assets, you'd have to issue everybody the same user/pass.
