Set Up Mercury on Windows


Use these instructions or our video tutorial to set up a Windows computer for the Mercury secure wireless network at CUIMC.

If a computer is on the MC domain (typically only department owned or managed computers) it may automatically connect to Mercury when an MC account logs in to the computer.  If so, you can skip the registration steps below.

Register and Set Up Mercury

  1. To register, the computer must either be:
  2. Close any open programs on the computer to avoid possible issues while Mercury is set up.
  3. Open the computer's web browser and visit https://www.it.cuimc.columbia.edu/mercury.
    If the page doesn't open please make sure you are connected to guest-net (on campus) or VPN.
  4. On the Register Your Device page enter your UNI and its password, then select Log In.
    TIP: Your UNI is the same login used for myColumbia or Student Information Systems. Login prompt
  5. Select the link to Start or Install QuickConnect. CUMC ClearPass Wizard Success Message
  6. Follow web browser prompts to save and open QuickConnect.
    • If it doesn't start automatically, browse to the downloaded QuickConnect file on the computer, then double-click on it to open.
    • If you see a protection or security warning, click More info or follow prompts to allow the ArubaQuickConnect program to run.
  7. In the CUMC ClearPass Onboard Wizard window that appears click Next. CUMC ClearPass Wizard
  8. If Security Warnings to install a certificate appear, select Yes to allow.
  9. The ClearPass window will show a success message when completed, click Finish. CUMC ClearPass Wizard Success Message
  10. The web browser will show a Device provisioning complete message. You can close the web browser; registration and set up have successfully finished.

Connect to Mercury

  1. To connect to Mercury wifi the computer must have successfully completed the Register and Set Up steps above and be in a supported campus location.
  2. Open to the list of wireless networks (click the wifi icon in the lower right of the computer screen) and select mercury. Mercury network in Windows 10 wifi list
  3. Follow any prompts to finish connecting.

You will not have to run set up on the computer to connect each time, and simply can select Mercury whenever it is in range to use secure wifi.
