iPad - Connect to Athens or VPN

The Apple iPad can connect to the campus wireless network, Athens, and securely from off campus using Cisco IPsec VPN gateways. VPN is only required to view some intranet sites, such as InfoNet, or other secured on campus resources. Please follow the instructions below carefully.

  1. Install the Enterprise Profile - required prior to using either Athens or VPN.
  2. Configure Athens - this is only required if you wish to connect your iPad to wireless while on campus.
  3. Configure VPN - this is only required if you wish to connect to secure resources while off campus.

Click here for a printable PDF version of these instructions.

  1. On your device, make sure you have an active network connection via existing Wi-Fi or 3G.

Configure VPN and connect to secure resources from off campus
IMPORTANT! You cannot successfully test VPN if your iPad is connected to the Athens wireless campus network. Athens already provides a secured connection, so most resources will appear even if VPN is not working properly on your iPad. Please follow the instructions below when you are off campus but connected via another Wi-Fi network or 3G.
  1. After having installed the Enterprise Profile, select the Settings button on your iPad.
  2. Select the VPN link, make sure the VPN button to the right is set to ON (tap once if not), then tap the NYP Remote - West link under Choose a Configuration... to select. A checkmark will appear to its left.

  3. A VPN Connection login prompt will appear. Type in your Columbia UNI and your UNI's password, then select OK.
