Using myPassword to Reset Your Password

If you forget your MC account (computer login) or CUMC email account password, you can reset it instantly online using the myPassword web site.

IMPORTANT: This is only for CUMC Exchange/Office 365 email accounts (ending in, login accounts for computers on the MC Domain, and CUMC IT managed network drives. For help with other accounts see this FAQ.

To reset your password via the myPassword web site:

  1. If you have a smartphone or tablet that is connected to your CUMC email account, put the device(s) in Airplane mode BEFORE changing your password. This prevents it from trying to connect using a password that is no longer correct and locking the account.

  3. The myPassword Self-Service page will appear. Select the link to Reset my Password.

  4. You will be prompted to enter your MC User Name, which is the first part of your CUMC email address (usually your UNI).
    NOTE: There is a 6 minute Inactivity Countdown timer at the bottom of most pages in myPassword. This is a security feature to prompt another login if there is no activity on the page within that time, preventing someone else from changing information if you have left your computer unattended. If you require more time to fill out fields on a myPassword page, you can simply click any blank spot on the myPassword page to start the timer over again.

  5. The security questions you selected when you set up your myPassword profile will appear one by one. Type in your answer and click once on the Continue button until you have successfully answered all of the security questions.
    • Answers are case-sensitive; if you used any capitals when creating your profile they will be required here.
    • Be sure to click on the Continue button after answering each question rather than hitting the Enter key on your keyboard.
    • If you are not able to correctly answer any of the questions, you must call the Service Desk at extension 5-Help (212-305-4357), option 5 to have your password reset. Once this is done you must log back into myPassword, select Edit Your Profile and set up new security questions and answers that you will be able to remember.

  6. After successfully answering all security questions, you will see the Set your new password window. Type your desired password in both the Password and Confirm fields.
    Remember that it must meet strong password criteria:
    • It must be over 8 total characters long.
    • It must use a combination of upper and lower case letters.
    • It must include at least one numeric and/or special character (&, ?, @, etc).
    • It cannot be the same as any of the 3 previous passwords you've used for this account.
    Select the Change Password button to immediately set this as your new password

  7. You will see a message reading Your Password has been Changed! and can begin using this new password for both you MC domain account and Exchange.
