Configure Your Macintosh Computer for the Wired CUMC Network
All computers connecting to the CUMC network must be registered before they can connect. If you have not yet registered your computer, please see our Connecting to the Wired CUMC Network page for detailed instructions.
When your computer's registration has been processed, you will receive an email stating that we have completed your IP request for either Roaming (automatic/DHCP) or Static (manually configured). If your computer is not already configured for roaming, or you have been assigned a Static IP address, you will need to configure your computer's Local Area Network Connection.
Please follow the appropriate instructions to configure your computer:
If your computer's operating system is not listed here please contact the CUMC IT Service Desk at extension 5-Help for more information.
Roaming (DHCP) for Macintosh OSX
Select the Apple menu in the upper left corner of your computer screen, then select System Preferences from the menu that appears.
Select the Network icon.
If you would like to set up your CUMC connection as a saved network setting (so you can switch back and forth from differently configured networks such as your home vs. school), select New Location from the Location drop down menu and type the name you would like for the new location. Otherwise you can leave the Location as Automatic.
Select Built-in Ethernet from the Show drop down menu.
Select the TCP/IP button, and then set the Configure drop down menu to Using DHCP.
Select Apply Now in the lower right corner of the Network window to save your changes.
Restart your computer. You may have to allow up to 24 hours for the network connection to become active, as stated in your "Completed IP Request" email.
Static for Macintosh OSX
Follow steps 1 through 4 above to access the Network window, making sure you are viewing the TCP/IP settings.
Set the Configure drop down menu to Manually, and use the information you received in your "Completed IP Request - Static" email to configure the following fields:
IP address - be sure to use the exact IP address contained in the email you received. Using another IP address, that is not assigned to your system, can cause connectivity issues for your computer and others on the network, and is in violation of CUMC Network Policies.
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway
DNS Servers - hit Return on your keyboard after entering the first DNS Server address in order to enter the second DNS Server address on a separate line.
Select Apply Now in the lower right corner of the Network window to save your changes.
Restart your computer. You may have to allow up to 24 hours for the network connection to become active, as stated in your "Completed IP Request" email.
CUMC Wired Network Tips:
Be sure your computer is securely plugged into a data port using a network (Cat 5) cable.
As indicated in the "Completed IP Request" email you receive, please allow up to 24 hours for your IP registration to replicate across the campus network, allowing you to connect.
