Synchronize Your Password

If you have changed or reset your MC domain (computer login and/or Exchange email account) password via the myPassword web site, you will also need to make sure that it is updated on any other devices and computers that may have stored the old password.

The devices that should be checked are:

If you do not update the password on all devices that have it stored, you may find that your account becomes repeatedly locked. Once you are sure you have updated your changed or reset password on all devices, you may also have to Unlock Your Account.

Please follow the instructions below to synchronize your password as needed, based on the devices you use in addition to your work computer. Typically this is simply going into the device's email settings, removing the old saved password and typing in the new password.

iPhone and iPad
  1. Select the Settings icon on the device's home screen, then the Mail, Contacts, Calendars link.

    iPhone Mail Settings

  2. If your device is set to automatically check for new data, it will need to be temporarily changed to manual in order to prevent the iPhone/iPad from automatically attempting to connect with an old password and locking your account. Make sure you note your original settings while following the steps a and b below, so you can change them back after updating your password if desired.
    1. Select the Fetch New Data link and make sure Push is set to Off (tap On if it is selected to change to Off).
    2. Further down on the Fetch New Data screen, tap Manually to select it.
    3. Select the Mail link in the upper left to return to the main Mail, Contacts, Calendars screen.

      iPhone Fetch Settings

  3. Tap the link for your Exchange account; it will be your uni followed by @cumc.columbia.edu (ex: abc1234@cumc.columbia.edu).
  4. Select the Account Info link at the top of the next screen.
  5. Tap at the end of the the Password field to bring up the on screen keyboard. Use the backspace key to remove the old password, and type in the new password you have already set via the myPassword site.

  6. Select the link in the upper left to return to the prior screen, then two more times to exit all the way to the main Settings options.
  7. Press the home button on your device and go into your Mail to verify that you are able to access your Exchange email. You will see an error if the password was entered incorrectly.
If you need to change back to automatic Fetch settings, follow steps 1 and 2 above to go in and set up your desired options.

Android

  1. Select My Accounts or Email from your home screen (the option may vary based on the type of Android phone you are using).
  2. Tap the Menu button.
  3. Select Account settings.

    Android Mail Account Settings

  4. Under Server settings, tap Incoming settings.

    Android Incoming Settings

  5. In the Password field, type in the new password you have already set via the myPassword site.

    Android Email Password

  6. Select the Next button at the bottom of the screen. Your device will attempt to login with the new password and will return to Account settings when done.

Manually Mapped Drive

Computers that are on campus and log in to the MC Domain typically have automatically mapped drives. This means that changing your MC password will not affect your access to your network drives. Click here for basic information on domains and campus computers.

Computers that are used off campus and do not log in to the MC Domain may have set up manual mappings in order to securely connect to CUMC IT managed network drives. Changing your MC password via the myPassword web site means that you will have to change any passwords saved on manually mapped drives as well. To do this:

  1. Go to the Remote Network Drive Access web pages. A UNI login may be required.
  2. Select the link in the left navigation for Finding the Network Drive's Path based on your computer's operating system.
  3. Use the instructions on the page to note your manually mapped network drive information.
  4. On Windows computers, you will need to right-click on the manually mapped network drive and select Disconnect. This clears out saved login and password information for the drive.
  5. Select the link in the left navigation for Mapping on.. based on your computer's operating system.
  6. Use the information you noted in step 3 to re-map the drive, using your updated password.
